[Industry News] Great Networking Event Coming Up

On behalf of Lifetime Television and Carson Kressley, I would like to invite you to our Televised Charity Event to benefit Congenital Heart Disease at the Cabana Club, Hollywood on the 25th July. For our 2nd Seasons Finale of 'How to Look Good Naked with Carson Kressley'
This link will direct you to the charity for tickets and donations. More information about the Event is seen below. Thank you in advance for your support.

    * https://www.achaheart.org/getinvolved/lookgood.php

Also some additional information about the evening:

To wrap up our second season of "How to Look Good Naked", we are hosting a fashion show to showcase the subject of this finale episode, Heather, a woman who was born with a congenital heart defect and has had surgeries from the age of 7 months until recently, at age 38. She had been told for most of her life to expect death but she has now, since her last surgery, been given the hope of a lengthy future.

As a result of her journey, she is now passionate about becoming a spokesperson for her charity and as part of the show, we hope to help her with that wish by putting together a glamorous event that will benefit the Adult Congenital Heart Association and the Ahmanson-UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center. We hope to raise a considerable donation through this televised event, that will feature a fashion show, silent auction, Open Bar, check presentation and press.

As you may know, "How to Look Good Naked" is an internal/external makeover show that promotes loving and accepting the body just as it is. We focus on helping women find confidence in their own skin, adoring and flaunting what they've already got, in an effort to support the totality of their health. In our subject's case, she now has the opportunity to embrace the surgery scars on her chest, back and legs that are a reminder of the journey she has traveled, and as a stimulus to walk forward proudly into her new lease on life.

Critics have given our show rave reviews, and Oprah Winfrey dedicated an entire episode to the dramatic transformations "How To Look Good Naked" can bring about. We are now back for a bigger and better second season, a one-hour show that culminates in this huge finale moment.

I really hope you can make it - because It will be a really fun event, for an overlooked and worthy cause.

Thank you for your support!
Please RSVP by clicking on the link for Tickets.

Saw it.

It was nice. Not the best. Not on par with Eternal Sunshine or with the new comedies like the Steve Zissou movie. But it was nice and cheery.

It's a good movie to see if you can find it at the dollar theater or just rent it.

[General Advice] Re: Film School

jcorsie - I think you're doing it right: making contacts, making friends and focusing on what can you do to learn more.

That's great. You have a "growth mindset". People who have "growth mindsets" are limited only by their imaginations.
On the flip side, there are people who have a "fixed mindset". They believe that you either have the talent or you don't. And that no effort, work, or growth is necessary. Typically, in this industry, those people with the fixed mindset make it only to "mid-level management" from what I've seen.

I see a lot of people in film school with this kind of attitude. They think they should just wait for others to notice their talent. Then there are people, like you, with the growth mindset who are always learning, always helping out, always trying to get involved. Those people usually end up better in the long run. I have one friend who wants to be in film but doesn't take the time to learn anything. That person has not grown in the past few years. I have another friend who helped out everyone and was always learning.
Just a couple of years ago he got to work on Spiderman 3. WHILE HE WAS IN SCHOOL.

He has so many contacts here in LA (even though he was in NYC) because he's just a great guy who helps people out and is always up to learn something new.

I think that's the kind of mindset people need. That's what has helped me immensely.
